We were inspired by photos of the Stokesay Castle gatehouse and so we whipped up a model for it. Once that was done, we pulled some pieces apart and came up with a plan for what the next release might be! Here are some models: So, the lines for this are being laid down now. Wood shingled roof and tudor style walls are coming! This likely means another simple freebie will be whipped up to show off those textures.

The lines have mostly been laid out, and now textures will start to go down. The gatehouse variation will also come soon. The instructions will be a bigger project than the model itself, I fear! Most of what's pictured there was hand-cut and assembled by a 10-year-old - he's got a knack for this stuff! I suspect given my current workload, it will still be a few weeks before this will get released.

It's taking me far too long to get the textures down on this model, but some progress was made today. The boards on the sides of the door are an unfortunate mistake... It will be corrected. The wall color is intentionally that awful, but it will be changing (and probably somewhat configurable!) There will be a few more boards added, and that will form the basis for the first and second floors of the model. A brick or stone base texture will probably find its way in as well.

Spot the difference? vs The beams will likely get *some* distressed makeover before all is said and done. While playing with the stucco coloring, this image popped out: There are some things you cannot unsee!

Steady progress - the walls are coming along nicely. A test build of the first floor is in order! A new printer has arrived in the office, too. Couldn't have arrived at a better time!

After a successful evening of laying down textures, the house is finally taking shape! Not done by any means - there will be some more experimenting with optional layers, additional colors for the walls perhaps, some experimenting with stone and/or brick behind the beams, additional tweaks to the walls, and the chimneys still need textures. Oh, and of course there will be a different style for the first floor, allowing for a gatehouse build! More? The first floor may feature it's own roof and peaked walls to enable building it on its own as well!

The chimney textures are in place now, but in doing a fully textured test build, some minor issues were discovered. That's what the test builds are for!

The progress train keeps a rollin'! 5 of the 7 PDFs are exported for the main house build. Still minor tweaks come up (like adding glue icons to the chimney spots). This week will hopefully yield the alternate first floor to make the gatehouse, and then the instructions can begin.

I've pulled together the promo pics for publishing, and have started the instructions. It'll take a few days to wrap them up. I realize I've forgotten to provide a textured base for the model! I'm considering making a layered base compatible with my cobblestone streets tileset. It'll be a layered version of the tiles so you can choose grass, mud or cobblestone (or muddy grass, or muddy cobblestone) and it'll allow for a straight street tile that goes through the gatehouse. I'll try to design it so the house will fit in nicely with 3" tiles (that is, I will make sure the base tile is a multiple of 3" in either direction).

October, the most hectic month of the year it seems, is almost over! There hasn't been *much* time for anything related to Paper Realms, but I haven't been totally idle. The Gatehouse model is nearing completion. I still have instructions to do for the roof and side chimneys, and in the process of making the instructions I found a couple minor omissions in the PDFs. Here's a promo pic of what's coming: If I don't come up with a good way to include a base tile, I'll have a disclaimer on the image that it's shown with the Cobblestone Streets tiles.
