Trying to see this coming next. The geometries I'll have to create intersect nicely with several other sets, so this will be a real treat for me to work on.

Prototyping some cave walls...

Test prints looked good, so I'm going ahead with this basic texture for the walls. Onto the floors tiles!

I'm happy with the floor texture, so I've started working on the "destroyed" floor tile geometries. The first tile (a 6" x 6" U shaped tile) came out great, though I will have to add special decorations to the little tabs on the edging pieces to ensure they are glued together correctly!

Here's a sample ground tile texture. I will be working on adding stones to form grids on the tiles, and I'll try to include 1.5" as well as 1" grids. The process of making "broken" tiles what will rest on irregularly shaped walls has worked out. Now that my day job will be starting back up, I can only hope to pick off one or two templates each week. Finishing the tile templates will make it a relatively straight-forward process to make the wall templates, though I haven't decided how I want to craft the ledges that the tiles will rest on. I suspect they will need to be something rigid to help the wall hold its shape. If that's the case, I might want to apply that something rigid to the top and bottoms of the walls (since they'll already not be storing flat) in order to prevent both the top and bottom from flattening out of their intended shape. I will be posting pictures as I finish pieces!

2 of the 10 new tile geometries planned are looking good. Tomorrow, some walls to go with them to prove out that little bit.

So, I've been tinkering with the walls to go with the rough-edge cavern tiles. I wasn't enjoying making the free-standing walls, and I don't want to release something I didn't have fun making. So, I'm trying to make some 'boxes' that will raise the tiles up. I'd love it, except I keep messing up the sizes of the faces of the wall, so they end up off by a millimeter here, a millimeter there... I might walk away for a few minutes and try to come back with fresh eyes!

Nope. The big box isn't gonna cut it. It took too long to assemble one, and I fear that it requires too much precision to make correctly. It DOES feel very solid though. I'll have to snap some photos just as a reminder of what I was doing, in case I want to come back to it.
Back to the drawing board! I never thought it would be the geometries that would give me trouble - I figured I'd never find a texture I'd like. I really like where the textures are - I just need something to put them on!

I've been tinkering with some fun features for other sets, and stumbled onto an 'aha' moment, so I'm shifting back to the caverns for a couple days to see what I can do. A couple more failures, and I'm sure I'll find something that makes me happy...
